ABOUT KURLING FOR KIDS

What is Kurling for Kids?

Kurling for Kids is a community fundraising event dedicated to improving the lives of children and their families by raising funds to allow children’s hospitals to provide leading edge medical treatments, programs and equipment which would otherwise be out of reach.

Kurling for Kids participants curl in fundraising events together toward one common goal – providing better care for children.

When does Kurling for Kids take place?

The 2018 event takes place on April 7, 2018, although other dates are also available for other clubs that want to join the Kurling for Kids family.

Where does Kurling for Kids take place?

Kurling for Kids takes place in 12 curling clubs in Quebec.

Who organizes Kurling for Kids?

Kurling for Kids is an entirely volunteer driven event from the board members, club organizers and to all  of the volunteers who give their efforts at each of our member clubs.

Do I have to curl to participate in Kurling for Kids?

Not at all: you can participate in Kurling for Kids in many different ways, as a participant/curler, as a fundraiser, as a volunteer.

Kurling for Kids welcomes adults and children of all ages to take part in a Kurling for Kids event.

If I want to be a part of Kurling for Kids, do I have to sign up as a participant/curler?

No, you can register as a participant/curler, as a fundraiser, or as a volunteer. Registration options are:

  • Kurling for Kids participant: $50 registration fee (before March 1st 2017) and a minimum of $250 in fundraising [Note – Registration fee is $60 after March 1st];
  • Kurling for Kids team: $200 registration fee (before March 1st 2017) and a minimum of $1,000 in fundraising (for the whole team) [Note – Registration fee is $240/team after March 1st];
  • Kurling for Kids Fundraiser: no registration fee or minimum in fundraising (extra fees would apply if a K4K fundraiser would like to attend the supper at their participating club. Contact your Kurling for Kids Club Organizer for more details. You can find their contact information on your Kurling for Kids LOCATIONS page.);
  • Corporate Team: $2,000 registration fee and no minimum in fundraising (although you are definitely encouraged to fundraise more if you like!).

How can my company or organization get involved?

We would love to welcome your organization to Kurling for Kids!

Here’s how you can get involved if you’re with a company or organization: Start a team with your colleagues and include your company or organization name when you register.

You can also join our event as a Corporate team and gain extra exposure for your company/organization.

If I invite others to join me at a Kurling for Kids event, do they have to pay to participate?

Participants are encouraged to register in teams of 4 although you can also register as an individual and we will find you a team.

Guests are welcome to encourage you at the Kurling for Kids event.

Contact your club organizer if you would like to invite others to join you for supper at your club’s event as there will be a small fee for the supper.

What happens if I don’t reach my commitment?

Everyone who participates in Kurling for Kids needs to raise a minimum of $250. When you put your mind to it you will be amazed what you can raise for a cause that is important as helping children.

If you’re not able to raise the minimum amount of $250, you’re encouraged to make a donation to your personal fundraising page to top off what you’ve raised. We’re here to help you, though! Once you register for Kurling for Kids, we’ll send you coaching emails to help you meet and exceed your fundraising goal. Every year, hundreds of people like you raise at least $250 – there’s no reason you can’t too!

As well, as long as your Kurling for Kids team has raised at least $1,000, it is ok.

Where does the money raised Kurling for Kids event go?

The money raised goes towards the purchase of critical needs equipment for children’s hospitals.   See the equipment being purchased with the funds raised from the 2017 Kurling for Kids event (CHU Sainte-Justine & Montreal Children).  Since our inception in 1999, Kurling for Kids has purchased more than $2 million in equipment and services for the CHU Sainte Justine and Montreal Children’s hospitals (see donation table HERE).

Is Kurling for Kids a registered charity?

Yes. The Foundation’s charitable number is 83329 5249 RR0001.  When you donate to Kurling for Kids, you will receive a tax receipt.

How do I learn more about becoming a sponsor of Kurling for Kids?

Can I fundraise by going door-to-door?

Kurling for Kids does not canvass door-to-door. Nor, does the Foundation encourage volunteer participants to solicit funds by door-to-door canvassing.

Some Kurling for Kids club events may have participants fundraise in their communities as part of their fundraising efforts for their events.

If you are approached by a fundraiser who states that they are raising money for Kurling for Kids, please follow this advice:

  • If you know and trust the fundraiser and you want to make a donation, please donate by giving the fundraiser a cheque made out to the Kurling for Kids. Do not give cash.
  • If the fundraiser is unknown to you and you want to support Kurling for Kids, please visit our website HERE for donation options.
  • If you are suspicious of a fundraiser, please take note of their appearance and contact your local police department.

Will my information be shared or traded with anyone?

No. Kurling for Kids will not share your information with any outside agencies/organizations or individuals without prior consent or, if the disclosure is permitted or required by law. For more information, please refer to our PRIVACY POLICY .

What if my Curling Club is not listed as a participating club?

If we don’t have an official Kurling for Kids event at your club, you can still be part of Kurling for Kids by registering, fundraising, or sponsoring an event at any of our participating locations.

Or, if curling isn’t for you, you can create a an event of your own such as a spaghetti dinner, zumbathon or anything else that interest you. Whatever you would like to do to help Kurling for Kids, you can recruit friends and family to join you in supporting the cause and making a difference.

You will still be eligible for tax receipts and fundraising incentives!

REGISTRATION

What are the different registration types?

You can register as a participant/curler, as a fundraiser, or as a volunteer.

How do I register as an individual?

Choose your Kurling for Kids location from our LOCATIONS page.

Once you have selected your Kurling for Kids location, click on the Register button. From here you will be able to select ‘Individual‘, ‘Join a K4K Team‘, or ‘Create a K4K Team‘.

Another option is to contact the team captain who can register you on the team.

Can I register and pay for someone else on my team?

Absolutely! You can register and pay for someone else. You can register as many people as you’d like, but you need to register everyone with their own unique email address.

What if I don’t remember my username or password?

I can’t remember the name of the team I’m trying to join. What can I do?

If any of your team members have already registered, you’ll be able to join the team from their personal fundraising page:

  • Click HERE and select donate to a participant or team.
  • Search for any of your registered teammates.

Can I register myself or my team on the day of the event?

Unfortunately no as the event needs to be scheduled for the games between the participants so make sure to register in advance. It’s better for you because you’ll have more time to reach your fundraising goal.

Is there a registration fee and what is it used for?

Yes, there is a registration fee.

Early bird registration is $50 before March 1st, 2017 and $60 afterwards.

Your registration fee helps to cover some of the costs of running Kurling for Kids, so that all of the money you receive in donations is used to help change the lives of children.

Please note that refunds cannot be given for donations, registrations or tickets purchased online at www.kurlingforkids.com.  If you have any questions regarding this policy, please contact Kurling for Kids at info@kurlingforkids.com

Do I have to fundraise in addition to paying the registration fee?

Yes, everyone who participates in Kurling for Kids sets a fundraising goal of at least $250, and we’ll be here every step of the way to help you reach your goal!

All of the money that you raise will be used to change the lives of children treated at the hospitals which Kurling for Kids supports.

Can I register offline?

Yes, you can register offline by downloading a participation form HERE, filling it in, and sending it by mail along with your registration fee payment by cheque to:

Make sure to send in your offline registration early enough so that you can take advantage of the early bird fee of $50 per participant before March 1st, or $60 afterwards.

Can I use my username and password from previous years?

Absolutely!

By using the same username and password from the last time you participated in Kurling for Kids, you will have access to all of your fundraising information including donors from previous years.

How do I register a team?

The best way to register your team is online by clicking on the REGISTER button.

Note that a team must ensure that each member registers at the same location.

You can register and pay for someone else on your team.

You can register as many people as you’d like, but you need to register everyone with their own unique email address.

How do I join a team?

Choose your Kurling for Kids location from our LOCATIONS page.

Once you have selected your Kurling for Kids location, click on the Register button.

From here you will be able to select ‘Join a K4K Team’ to join an existing team, or ‘Create a K4K Team’ if you want to start a new team.

Another option is to contact the team captain who can register you on the team.

 

TEAMS

Do I need to have 4 members to form a team?

The maximum number of curlers per team is 4-5 but you can create a team alone and your other team members can join your team afterwards

What happens if my donor incorrectly donates to my team?

If a donor mistakenly donates to your team and would like to transfer the donation to an individual participant, the donor can contact us by email at info@kurlingforkids.org.

If I make a donation to my team, will I receive a tax receipt?

Donations to Kurling for Kids will receive an income tax receipt for all donations of $20 or more.   As well it will count towards your team fundraising goal!

 

PERSONAL FUNDRAISING PAGES

What is my Personal Fundraising page?

Your personal fundraising page contains customizable tools for emailing friends and family, tracking online donations, team status, and much, much more.

Your Personal Page serves as your main communication piece to tell your story, appeal for sponsorship, and show your fundraising progress.

This page will automatically be made public as part of the campaign.

Participants are able to customize content and images on their Personal Fundraising page.

Will my current Fundraising page have my past donors’ information and email addresses?

Yes. If you registered as a Returning Participant with your previous username, all of your donor information will be available under the email contact section of your Fundraising Centre.

Where can I find more information about my personal participant page?

Please refer to the Participant Centre Online Help page that you can access by logging in your personal page HERE.

 

OFFLINE DONATIONS

How do I submit in-person/offline donations?

Great job fundraising!

You will hand in all funds collected to your Kurling for Kids registration desk on the day of your event.

Envelopes will be available for you on the day of your event for you to document all funds raised and hand them in to your registration desk.

What are offline donations?

Offline donations are cash or cheques received during your fundraising.

Can I enter offline cash donations received into the system using my credit card?

Yes you can and this will ensure your online fundraising totals are up=to-date.  It’s as simple as clicking on the DONATE button and filling in the Donor’s name, email and address information.  Then you complete the transaction with your credit card.

How long will it take before my donations are posted to my account?

Any offline donations entered by participants will automatically be reflected in their fundraising thermometers.  Note that these donations will only be confirmed by the system administrator when all funds have been handed in and confirmed.  This will be completed by the end of May, 2017.

Does the Foundation accept corporate matching donations?

FUNDRAISER INCENTIVES

What are the Fundraising Incentive levels?

All participants in Kurling for Kids who individually raise $250 or more are eligible for the Fundraising Incentives program.

See the FUNDRAISING INCENTIVES PAGE for details on the levels and prizes.

Is my Fundraising Incentive level transferable?

No. The Fundraising Incentive level reached individually cannot be transferred to another participant.

Does my team fundraising total count towards the Fundraising Incentives program?

No. Team fundraising totals are NOT eligible for Fundraising Incentives,  and they do not count towards an individual’s fundraising total.

When will donations be counted for Incentive?

Please allow 6 – 8 weeks after the April 29th 2017 Kurling for Kids raffle draw for receipt of incentive prizes which will be delivered by mail to each participant

I did not receive my Fundraising Incentive prize, what should I do?

Please contact us at info@kurlingforkids.org and we will be happy to assist you.

How long will it take for my incentive prize to arrive?

Please allow 6 – 8 weeks after the April 29th 2017 Kurling for Kids raffle draw for receipt of incentive prizes which will be delivered by mail to each participant

How long will it take before a participant’s offline donations are added to their record?

DONATIONS

How do I make a donation?

Thanks you for your support! There are many ways you can make a donation.

Sponsor a participant, team, club or the main event online by clicking HERE.

If someone you know is participating in Kurling for Kids and you’d like to support their fundraising efforts, making an online gift is quick and easy!

Click on DONATE and type in the name of the participant in the individual field.

When you find the participant you are looking for, click on their name which will bring you to their personal fundraising page and then click on DONATE NOW.

Don’t want to make a donation online? Talk to the person, team or club you want to sponsor and they’ll fill out an offline pledge sheet for you.

When will Kurling for Kids send out tax receipts for donations?

If you donate online to a team, to yourself or another participant, a club or the main event you will automatically receive an electronic tax receipt.

Kurling for Kids will begin issuing tax receipts for offline donations following the event on April 1, 2017.

They will be distributed no later than February 28, of the calendar year that follows the year of the donation but typically are done by June-July of each year.

I have lost my original tax receipt and require a duplicate. What do I do?

Please contact us at info@kurlingforkids.org with all of the details about your donation and we will reissue a receipt.

Do I get a tax receipt for my donation?

All donations of $20 or more will receive a tax receipt.

Do I get a tax receipt for raffle ticket purchases?

No raffle ticket purchases are not eligible for tax receipts as you are receiving something for your purchase and are therefore not eligible for a tax receipt under Canada Revenue Agency guidelines.

 

VOLUNTEER

How do I become a volunteer?

Does volunteering for Kurling for Kids qualify for high school community service hours?

Absolutely! After the event, you will be given a statement outlining your volunteer hours during our event.

 

RAFFLE TICKETS

How do I buy tickets online?

Please click HERE to buy Raffle tickets online.

What does the money for raffle ticket sales go towards?

While a small portion of ticket sales goes to cover costs, the bulk of all funds raised from ticket sales goes to the hospitals.

How can I obtain raffle tickets to sell?

When you register online, your Kurling for Kids location organizer will contact you concerning the sale of Raffle tickets.

Note that tickets are available on a limited basis and any tickets you have must be completely sold before you can receive more.

How many tickets are available?

The 2017 Kurling for Kids raffle will include 40,000 tickets with 15 prizes valued at more than $20,000!

If I purchase tickets on-line, can I assign my purchase to a participant of Kurling for Kids?

Yes, when you purchase tickets one of the fields you must complete is “who are you buying tickets from”, simply select the name of the person who you wish to purchase tickets from and your transaction will be processed and the K4K participant will be advised.  The K4K participant in turn will coordinate with you to get you your tickets.
If you cannot find the name of the K4K participant, you can indicate the name in the field “Can’t find the name of the K4K participant”
If the ticket purchase is simply to sponsor Kurling for Kids simply select Purchase from Main Event and Kurling for Kids will be in contact with you directly.

If I purchase a ticket on-line will the amount appear in the participants totals immediately?

Tickets which are purchased on-line will appear in the K4K participant’s personal fundraising thermometer within 24 – 48 hours of purchase.
